This includes African Americans, American Indians, Hispanic Americans, Pacific Islanders, or first-generation students from one of the underrepresented groups who are pursuing an education\/training beyond high school.\u00a0 This successful applicant must be a U.S. citizen and have demonstrated community service initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>AWARDS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If selected as recipient, the applicant will receive a monetary award.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>APPLICATION<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interested students must complete the application.<\/li>\n<li>Each student must submit an essay on the following topic: &#8220;<strong><em>Analyze how equal access to healthcare\u00a0affects\u00a0public health and society\u00a0as a whole<\/em><\/strong><b>&#8220;.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications and essays should be submitted directly to the foundation using the online form found on the website.\u00a0 If you are unable to submit the documents to the website, you can email both documents to <a href=\"mailto:jrgriffinscholarship@gmail.com\">jrgriffinscholarship@gmail.com<\/a> before the Spring 2026 deadline, which is <strong>December 14, 2025 at @ 12 midnight EST.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>ESSAY GUIDELINES:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A written paper with a minimum of 500 words.<\/li>\n<li>Identification (your name, date, and school you are attending)<\/li>\n<li>Margins: Use a 1\u201d margin on all sides.<\/li>\n<li>Line Spacing: Use a 1.5 or double line spacing.<\/li>\n<li>Paragraphs: Indent the first line of each paragraph with a tab.\u00a0 All lines are to be left justification.<\/li>\n<li>Font:\u00a0 Arial 12-pt type<\/li>\n<li>Paragraphs:\u00a0 No space between paragraphs<\/li>\n<li>Page Number:\u00a0 Each page should be numbered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>HOW IS AN ESSAY SCORED?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Essay topic for the Spring 2026 scholarship is: &#8220;<strong><em>Analyze how equal access to healthcare\u00a0affects\u00a0public health and society\u00a0as a whole<\/em><\/strong><b>&#8220;. <\/b><strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Each essay will be read by a panel of academic judges. The essay will be graded in four categories. Sixteen is the highest score an essay can receive from one judge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Score Description<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>4-<\/strong> Clearly addresses the writing task, demonstrates a clear understanding of purpose, maintains a consistent\u00a0point of focus, organizational structure and contains few, if any errors in the conventions of the English\u00a0language (grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling).<\/p>\n<p><strong>3-<\/strong>Demonstrates a general understanding of purpose, addresses all parts of the writing task, few errors in conventions of English language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2-<\/strong>Addresses only part of the writing task, demonstrates little understanding of purpose, and contains several errors in the conventions of the English language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1-<\/strong>Addresses only one part of the writing task, demonstrates no understanding of purpose, contains serious errors in the conventions of the English language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VIDEO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are also offering students the opportunity to include a video of their essay topic.\u00a0 The video cannot be more than three (3) minutes. The video is not an alternative to the written essay.\u00a0 It is only an option.\u00a0 The video will be used to allow you to be creative with your essay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Winners are required to submit proof of acceptance to school.\u00a0 They will also need to provide the Foundation with the department, contact person, and mailing information.\u00a0 Once this information is received, the Foundation will provide a payment directly to the school.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Once you complete the online application, please hit the submit button.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Jessie and Romie Griffin Scholarship Foundation is a nonprofit group with a focus of helping those interested in pursuing education beyond high school.
